Core 3: clinical follow up

PI: Anna deFazio

Overall Objective

To obtain comprehensive clinical outcome data on over 1000 incident cases of primary epithelial ovarian cancer enrolled in the Australian Ovarian Cancer Study. This clinical information will be collected in parallel with epidemiological data and biospecimens.

Specific Aims and Hypotheses

We hypothesize that the clinical outcome in ovarian cancer patients can be related to:

  • The gene expression profiles of the tumour
  • Genetic polymorphisms in germline DNA and/or mutations in somatic DNA
  • Epidemiologic and behavioural characteristics of the women

We specifically aim to:

  • Collect comprehensive clinical outcome information on all cases enrolled in AOCS
  • Correlate overall survival and progression-free survival in ovarian cancer patients with tumour DNA microarray expression profiles, genetic polymorphisms and with epidemiologic characteristics
  • Compare response to chemotherapy with tumour DNA microarray expression profiles and genetic polymorphisms
  • Significantly increase the value of the samples collected by linking epidemiologic and biospecimen banks with clinical follow up information for future studies on ovarian cancer and treatment outcomes.
